Why Use Hand Sanitizer?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states on their website that in addition to getting the flu vaccine (especially important for high risk persons), hand washing is one of the most important steps to take to prevent from getting sick this winter.

Keeping hands clean through improved hand hygiene is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.
When should you wash your hands?

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before eating food
  • Before and after caring for someone who is sick
  • Before and after treating a cut or wound
  • After using the toilet
  • After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
  • After handling pet food or pet treats
  • After touching garbage

In fact, it has been reported (2013 Meta-analysis of germ transmission data by Dr. Gerba, University of Arizona.) that more than 80% of illnesses can be transmitted by hands.
Hand sanitizers like Purell contain alcohol, which kills 99.99% of germs on hands. They also contain conditioners to smooth and moisturize your skin.
